As it accelerates the city renewal process, Qingzhen city in Guiyang, Southwest China's Guizhou province aims to give people access to more comprehensive public services.

"For decades, my family has lived in a messy old house without elevators. Our lives have become less convenient, and we have long been looking forward to moving into a new apartment," said Zhang Sufang, in her 60s.

Shabby houses in her community were built from the 1960s to 1990s, and the government is currently building seven residential buildings for relocated people, with four of them having been roofed. The seven buildings are expected to be distributed to locals in 2024.

In addition, the government has also laid out plans for parks and a smart health management center to surround the community.

In 2022, Qingzhen completed 11 such shanty town renovation projects and 34 old residential area transformation projects, benefiting 2,722 households and 776 households, respectively.

This year, the city plans to conduct 11 shanty town renovation projects and 18 old residential area transformation projects.
