Amid the nation's efforts to promote rural vitalization, Qingzhen city in Southwest China's Guizhou province has taken advantage of its plentiful resources to boost industries with local characteristics and help farmers increase their incomes, local media reported.
Identifying local strengths and fostering advantageous industries with local characteristics are the main approaches that Qingzhen city relies on to help local farmers become more prosperous, officials said.
Sanhe village in Qingzhen is a good example. Relying on a nearby mountain and lake, the village, in cooperation with a local sports development company, built a paragliding base, attracting many tourists. It is also working with Mafengwo, a tourism company, to build a camping base, providing tourists with a variety of recreational options.
Tourism has created jobs for local farmers and promoted the village's agricultural products such as eggs, chickens, honey and pork, and ultimately, leading to a significant increase in farmer incomes.
"Business is good for our agricultural produce, and our lives keep improving," said Wang Xianping, a resident of Sanhe village.
In Xiniu village, an agricultural machinery cooperative has been established under the leadership of the village's Party committee.
Through such channels as government subsidies and support, communal investment, publicly-provided machinery, and donations, the cooperative has provided integrated and refined services to local farmers, such as mechanized land preparation, sowing, fertilization, spraying, harvesting and transportation.
In addition to promoting agricultural mechanization, the cooperative also enables its members to benefit from the income it earns.
