Officials of Zhanjie town in Qingzhen city, Guiyang, Southwest China's Guizhou province, have coordinated with villagers to edit their original village regulations and rules, involving neighborhood relations, habits and customs, and social security. In this way, villagers have been mobilized to educate, manage, and supervise themselves.

Yang Shaoxing, a resident of the town's Xiaoba village, said that he used to be so busy attending all kinds of feasts celebrating relocation, new birth, and further study that he sometimes did not earn enough for gift money. Now things have changed. "We do not have to memorize them deliberately, since every rule and regulation was the result of our negotiation, and we should live up to our own promises," Yang added.

All 26 villages and communities in Zhanjie town have updated their village rules and regulations.
