July 4 was the sixth day of the sixth lunar month on the Chinese lunar calendar – a traditional festival for people of the Bouyei ethnic group.
People in Zhongshan village (a traditional Bouyei village) in Qingzhen city, Guiyang, Southwest China’s Guizhou province, held a series of celebrations on that day, attracting locals from the other surrounding Bouyei villages to participate.
They performed folk song duets, wrapped zongzi, or glutinous rice dumplings, made ciba, a glutinous rice cake, and visited friends and relatives with baskets of food.
Dancing performances were also staged to demonstrate national unity.
