The aluminum foil project and gallium production project established in Qingzhen, Guiyang, Southwest China's Guizhou province, recently began construction, according to local news reports on Feb 10.
The aluminum foil project, being funded by Guizhou Guilyu New Material Co, will boast five aluminum foil production lines, with an estimated construction area of 40,000 square meters.
Gallium is a soft, silvery metal used primarily in electronic circuits, semiconductors and light-emitting diodes, or LEDs. The gallium production facility is expected to produce 40 metric tons of gallium annually after it officially starts operating in July.
Qingzhen saw 29 billion yuan ($4.56 billion) in output by industries above a designated size, up 11.43 percent year-on-year. Of that, the dominant industry – the aluminum-based new materials sector – posted 17.22 billion yuan worth of production.
"This year, we will strive to reach our 43-billion-yuan goal in total industrial output, with the added value growth rate of industries above a designated size to be raised to 19 percent," said an official from the Qingzhen municipal government.
In addition, in the current year the city is also projected to fulfill its 6.5-billion-yuan industrial investment target and construct 1 million sq m of standardized workshops for enterprises.
