"I never thought I could receive a house so quickly after being relocated. The new community boasts good transportation infrastructure and a pleasant environment, and there are farm produce markets nearby. Water, electricity and natural gas are all accessible. I will soon start furnishing the house and move in," said a resident surnamed Peng, who was among the 126 relocated households satisfied with their new community in Qingzhen.
He was referring to a shanty town renovation project in Shiguan district. He used to live in a residential area built by villagers, but due to its low land utilization rate and incomplete supporting infrastructure, the government authorized a renovation project in 2017.
The Qingzhen shanty town renovation service center has in recent years coordinated with other governmental departments in charge of finance, housing, natural resources and administrative committees of sub-districts, and has implemented 24 such renovation projects involving 5,125 households in total, and paid 705.25 million yuan ($105.79 million) in subsidies to relocated residents in 2018-20. These projects have to a large extent boosted people's sense of gain and happiness.
In 2021-23, Qingzhen plans to continue carrying out 43 such projects with an investment of 7.13 billion yuan.
During the process, the government will adhere to market-oriented operations to further mobilize enterprises and other social groups to transform infrastructure for water, electricity and natural gas supplies, communication, polluted water and waste processing, as well as public service facilities in trade, education, healthcare, and other areas.
