The Qingzhen government in Guiyang, Southwest China's Guizhou province, has in recent years intensified efforts to strengthen its housing security management through four new approaches.

Daily patrols of old residential buildings have been increased, and a complete database that contains information about these buildings has been established. So far, a total of 2,366 old houses have been inspected, with 280 included in the shanty town renovation plan.

Other measures carried out to raise security levels of houses include punishing illegal housing structure modifications and unapproved construction projects, and normalizing the inspection system for rural residences.

A total of 128,312 square meters of illegal buildings have now been torn down, and 92,904 residences in 180 administrative villages have passed the housing inspection.
