More than 110,000 children from kindergartens, primary schools and middle schools have gone back to school in Qingzhen, a county-level city in Guiyang, capital city of Southwest China's Guizhou province, according to local media reports on March 1.

The county government has worked hard to ensure the safe return of local students in the new semester. On March 2, the office of integrated management in Qingzhen's Zhanjie town worked with the local police, the market regulation bureau, the city management office and the cultural service center to regulate the environment surrounding schools. Nine mobile stalls and 16 food stores have been removed from areas outside campuses. Forty operation vehicles have been checked for safety concerns.

So far, the "one-button" emergency alarm system has been installed in all kindergartens, schools and other education institutions, with monitoring videos of key areas being accessed by the Qingzhen 110 Command Center. These areas include school gates, walls, canteens, playgrounds and laboratories. The government has also enhanced security education by delivering emergency drills and safety-related lessons to pupils.

In response to the COVID-19 epidemic, the Qingzhen government held a session on Feb 18 and led an investigation into the health conditions of the school faculties and students during the 14 days leading up to the start of the new semester. Key spots to be frequented by students have been disinfected. Sterilization work will be conducted on a daily basis after students return to school.

The school canteens have undergone careful inspections, since these areas have a big impact on the students' health. Canteen workers are being required to provide their health certificate and clean the canteen's storehouse to make sure that no corrupted or out-of-date food materials can be used in meals.

In addition, healthcare rooms have been established in all schools and kindergartens to maintain the physical as well as mental health of students.
