Qingzhen -- a county-level city in Southwest China's Guizhou province -- has repaired farmland water conservation and irrigation facilities since the start of winter, to improve its ability to resist natural disasters and ensure the stable development of its agriculture.
All the towns and villages in Qingzhen carried out investigations into leaks and the collapse of farmland irrigation channels, as well as damages to the electrical and mechanical equipment of irrigation stations, seeking solutions to existing problems.
The Qingzhen bureau of agriculture and rural affairs, together with Qingzhen Industrial Investment Co, then put together a work team and supervisors for the restoration.
Meanwhile, the city has called on members of the public to help with the restoration and construction of the farmland water conservation and irrigation facilities.
The project, with an investment of over 4.99 million yuan ($764,293), involves 106 sites in 38 villages in nine towns.
Some 80 percent of the project has been completed. Once completed, 982 hectares of irrigated areas will have been restored and improved.
