Qingzhen -- a county-level city in Southwest China's Guizhou province -- held a conference on the development of the aluminum-based new materials industry on Dec 10.

More than 100 people from municipal government departments in the province's capital Guiyang, Guiyang's universities, scientific research institutes, science and technology associations, businesspeople, and representatives from the Qingzhen government participated in the event.

Academicians and experts engaged in research on the sector delivered reports. They held discussions on current conditions, as well as talks about practical applications and development prospects for the industry, both at home and abroad.

Participants also carried out on-site investigations and offered guidance on local related industrial parks and enterprises, to help develop the sector in Qingzhen and Guiyang.

During the event, Qingzhen signed a strategic cooperation agreement with Nonferrous Metals Society of China (Nfsoc) and Guiyang Association for Science and Technology and jointly established the Nfsoc Guiyang service station.

In recent years, Qingzhen has built an industrial ecosystem dominated by aluminum and aluminum processing, achieving sustainable, stable and healthy development of the aluminum-based new materials industry.

It has formed a complete industrial supply chain, from aluminum mining to the production of aluminum products. The aluminum-based new materials industry mainly involves the automobile and construction machinery parts, luggage manufacturing, rail transit, packaging and industrial structural sections.

In 2019, the total industrial output value of enterprises above designated size -- those with annual revenue of over 20 million yuan ($3.05 million) -- in Qingzhen's aluminum-based new materials industry reached 12.4 billion yuan, which accounted for 50.48 percent of the total output value of all manufacturers above a designated size in Qingzhen.

Che Weiwei contributed to the story.
