In recent years, Southwestern Qingzhen city has taken the initiative and issued a series of policies aimed at improving the quality of teaching in the area, according to local officials.
They said Qingzhen focused on the need to recruit more teachers.
Educationalists say that for every 13 students in senior middle schools there needs to be one teacher, while in junior middle schools for every 15 students there needs to be one teacher. They say that in primary schools, every 20 students need to have at least one teacher.
Since Jan 1, 2016, a total of 759 teachers have been recruited in kindergartens, primary and secondary schools in Qingzhen, officials said.
They said the city has also provided special training for teachers, including pre-job training for new teachers, training for backbone teachers, moral education training and safety training, thus vigorously improving the comprehensive quality of teachers.
Meanwhile, more than 4,000 faculty members in Qingzhen have received training for continuing education, with an average of more than 72 hours. Since 2016, the city has trained more than 600 outstanding teachers -- including excellent national, provincial and municipal teachers, as well as advanced educators.
Moreover, the city has not neglected the moral education of teachers. Since 2016, more than 100 teachers have been given awards for their virtue.
Officials said Qingzhen has also attached great importance to improving the salary of teachers, especially teachers in rural schools. A teacher performance evaluation system has been developed.
Additionally, the year-end bonus of teachers in Qingzhen reached 39,800 yuan ($5,686.7) in 2018, as much as that of local civil servants.
