Guanshanhu district in Guiyang, capital of Southwest China's Guizhou province, is accelerating the development of modern services, emerging industries, and its building economy to foster new drivers of growth.
The district has strengthened its financial, exhibition, digital, commercial, and tourism sectors. Its Guiyang Financial City is home to more than two-thirds of Guizhou's financial, insurance, securities, and fund management institutions.
Major events, including the China International Big Data Industry Expo, China (Guizhou) International Alcoholic Beverages Expo, and Eco Forum Global Guiyang, have further boosted business activity and industrial cooperation.
The digital economy is also expanding, with artificial intelligence, digital audiovisual technology, intelligent driving, and data annotation emerging as new growth areas. Technology companies in Guanshanhu now account for more than 60 percent of Guiyang's total technology enterprise revenue.
Guanshanhu is also tapping into emerging sectors such as the low-altitude economy and digital culture. Local drone manufacturer Guizhou Hengfei Technology Co has expanded from a 400-square-meter startup space into an industrial base of nearly 14,000 sq m. Its independently developed drones are used in agricultural operations, emergency response, and educational activities.
The district has also introduced a Shenzhen-based project to develop flying-saucer-shaped electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft, with overseas orders steadily increasing.
Building on its commercial and financial advantages, Guanshanhu is developing high-rise office buildings into integrated industrial hubs.
The district now hosts 62 headquarters enterprises and 20 office buildings each generating more than 100 million yuan ($14.99 million) in annual tax revenue. It has also been recognized as a model district in China's Building Economy Development Index, with the number of Grade A and super Grade A office buildings ranking first in Guiyang.
