Guanshanhu Economic Development Zone in Guiyang, capital of southwest China's Guizhou province, is making efforts to accelerate the development of its new energy vehicle (NEV) industry by building a new industrial cluster.

With suppliers increasingly clustered around major manufacturers, the zone has raised its local supply rate to 48 percent, helping reduce production costs, improve delivery efficiency, and strengthen supply chain resilience.

The approach has earned national recognition. A case submitted by Guanshanhu Economic Development Zone was selected for the 2026 list of innovative practices in high-quality industrial park development. The case was titled, "From Leading Enterprises to Full-Chain Collaboration: An Integrated Investment, Project Implementation, and Enterprise Service Mechanism to Upgrade the NEV Industry".

The zone is one of only four industrial parks in Guizhou to earn a place on the prestigious list.

The progress reflects a shift from attracting individual projects to developing a coordinated industrial chain. Using industrial chain maps, the zone targets gaps in vehicle manufacturing, power batteries, and auto parts, attracting businesses that complement the needs of leading automakers.

It has also established dedicated teams to support projects throughout the investment, construction, and production stages, providing tailored assistance with land, infrastructure, logistics, and administrative procedures. Direct channels for businesses to raise concerns and closer cooperation between major automakers and smaller suppliers further support the cluster's development.

Local companies are already seeing the benefits. Guiyang Ditong Auto Parts Co received dedicated assistance with land, electricity, recruitment, and administrative procedures, helping shorten its project launch timeline, said Zhang Dejin, the company's engineering manager.

The expanding local supplier network has also reduced logistics costs and delivery times. As more raw-material and surface-treatment businesses have established operations nearby, Guizhou Zhixin Industrial Co can source more materials locally.

Regular automation innovation competitions organized by the zone also encourage technical exchanges and help companies improve efficiency, said Tang Dajian, the company's general management manager.

Geely Auto's Guiyang manufacturing base has likewise benefited from closer supply chain integration. With more components now available locally, the plant can respond to production needs more quickly and maintain a more stable supply chain.

A company representative said the base would continue to leverage its role as a leading automaker to attract more suppliers and deepen collaboration across the industry.
