During the recently ended May Day holiday, Guiyang's Guanshanhu district recorded strong growth in both visitor flow and consumer spending, reflecting a dynamic holiday economy driven by integrated cultural, commercial, sports, and tourism activities.

From May 1 to 5, the district welcomed 2.75 million consumer visits, up 5.15 percent year-on-year, while total consumption hit 1.83 billion yuan ($267.15 million), an increase of 4.49 percent compared to the same period last year. Overnight tourists exceeded 200,000, highlighting Guanshanhu's growing appeal as a short-stay destination.

A total of 45 themed cultural, commercial, sports, and tourism programs were launched during the holiday period. These diversified offerings helped transform short-term visitors into longer-stay consumers, further unlocking holiday spending potential.

Major shopping centers delivered a strong performance. The Shiji Jinyuan Shopping Center recorded sales of 95.05 million yuan, with over 1.04 million visits. Local Wanda Plaza saw a 19.47 percent year-on-year increase in sales, while China Resources MixC reported double-digit growth in both revenue and foot traffic.

A standout performer was the creative lifestyle district Ayunduocang, which achieved explosive growth during the holiday. Its themed "WA! Potato Festival", featuring nearly 40 creative vendors and immersive food-and-culture experiences, attracted large crowds. The district recorded a 102.14 percent increase in visitor numbers and a 152.33 percent rise in sales, becoming a key driver of nightlife and surrounding street economies.

Tourism and leisure destinations also remained highly popular. Scenic spots such as the Baihua Lake Scenic Area and Huanhuayang Theme Park drew strong crowds, offering lake cruises, art exhibitions, and family-friendly activities. The Geological Museum of Guizhou alone received 47,000 visitors.

Sports events further energized the holiday atmosphere. The 2026 Guizhou "Lingmei Cup" Youth Badminton Elite Tournament and the National Youth Sport Climbing Open attracted more than 1,700 young athletes from across China, turning Guanshanhu into a national hub for youth sports competition.
