During China's 14th Five-Year Plan period (2021-25), the Guanshanhu Modern Service Industry Pilot Zone in Guiyang, capital of Southwest China's Guizhou province, saw rapid development, becoming a key engine for high-quality economic growth in the region.
In finance, the zone launched the Guizhou Guanshanhu Fund Town in 2021, accelerating private equity development and supporting the real economy.
In 2024, it established a "three-party collaboration" mechanism linking the Financial Service Center, Fund Town operations, and fund management companies, while introducing innovative new services such as the "Partner Bank" program, investment roadshows, and tailored financial solutions.
By the end of 2025, 63 fund enterprises had settled in the town, managing over 165 billion yuan ($23.57 billion) and investing in 656 projects across 18 sectors.
The zone also strengthened industrial growth. For example, the Guanshanhu Economic and Technological Development Zone, located in its jurisdiction, became a provincial-level industrial hub, expanding the electronics, automotive, and ecological food industries.
Geely's Guiyang base led the rise of new energy vehicles in the zone, with the zone hosting 18 automotive enterprises generating 27.37 billion yuan in industrial output.
Emerging sectors like smart connected vehicles and electronics saw rapid clustering, while the ecological food industry attracted 52 companies, producing 1.09 billion yuan in output among enterprises above designated size.
In the exhibition and events sector, the zone leveraged its international conference resources to host 2,391 events by 2025, with 4,606 market participants and a total economic output of 30.5 billion yuan.
Guanshanhu also advanced the building economy, with 161 commercial buildings hosting over 23,700 enterprises and contributing significantly to tax revenue. Initiatives like the "Guangguan Building Platform" and enterprise associations improved business services and promoted the integration of industrial, cultural, and commercial development.
Finally, the zone's Southwest International Trade City enhanced regional commerce and logistics. The "Good Goods Alliance" and integrated home furnishing and e-commerce hubs expanded their market reach, while smart logistics platforms connected 88 districts across the province. The trade city's annual revenue grew from 13.57 billion yuan in 2021 to over 50 billion yuan in 2025, reflecting the zone's role as a major driver of regional trade and service industry growth.
