During the 14th Five-Year Plan period (2021-25), Guanshanhu district in Guiyang, capital of Southwest China's Guizhou province, has hosted more than 400 events, attracting over 5 million participants and generating more than 4 billion yuan ($571.43 million) in consumption.
Since 2021, Guanshanhu has pursued a development approach of "major events every month and activities every week", building a diverse event system ranging from international competitions – such as the Guiyang Marathon and the IFSC Climbing World Cup – to branded events in fencing and equestrian sports, as well as the community-focused "Active Guanshanhu" games.
Over the past five years, the district has held more than 30 national-level and higher-level events, strengthening its reputation as a "City of Sports Events".
This September's IFSC World Cup – the highest-level climbing competition ever held in Guizhou – drew athletes from 16 countries and regions. Local athletes won gold and silver, sparking citywide excitement and increasing the popularity of sports in the city.
