Guanshanhu district is located in the northwest of Guiyang city, Southwest China's Guizhou province. The district borders the Qianling Mountains to the east, Yunyan and Huaxi districts to the south, Gui'an New Area and Qingzhen city to the west, and Baiyun district to the north. It covers a total area of 307 square kilometers, with a built-up area of 64.5 square kilometers and an urbanization rate of 85.4 percent. Guanshanhu district administers three towns, seven streets, 49 administrative villages, and 84 neighborhood committees with a permanent resident population of more than 500,000.
Guanshanhu district is a new urban area that started construction in 2000. Approved by the State Council in 2012 as an administrative district, it is a dynamic city area with huge development space and obvious potential.
Guanshanhu district is positioned as the political, economic, financial, cultural and transportation center of Guiyang. It has a large number of major municipal and provincial-level functional facilities and projects, including Guiyang's municipal administrative center, the Guiyang Olympic Sports Center, the Guiyang International Convention and Exhibition Center, Guizhou Financial City, Guizhou Southwest International Trade City, the Guizhou Provincial Museum, and Guiyang High-speed Railway North Station.
National events and conferences such as the Eco Forum Global Annual Conference, the China International Big Data Industry Expo, and the China (Guizhou) International Alcoholic Beverages Expo are held annually in Guanshanhu district, making it the largest tourism distribution center in Guizhou and the city's "window to the world".
Guanshanhu district is one of the few urban areas in China named after a lake. The district has three lakes - Guanshan, Baihua and Yueshan - in its administrative area, making it an important and protected drinking water source in Guiyang. In 2017, the district was among the first regions in China to win the title of national ecological demonstration zone.
Guanshanhu district is the first modern service industry pilot zone in Guizhou's national inland open economy pilot zone. Working with a high level of openness to the outside world, the district takes high-end consumption and mid-to-high-end manufacturing as its two engines, and strives to promote the high-quality development of modern industries such as big data, health, finance, conventions and exhibitions, business, tourism, and modern manufacturing. Its aim is to become a high-end consumer goods distribution center, an imported goods distribution center, an international middle and high-end consumer goods industrial center and a trade integration demonstration zone, and to take a leading position in economic opening-up. The district has played a pioneering role in the development of the modern service industry in Guizhou.
In recent years, there has been sound momentum in the economic and social development of Guanshanhu district, with continuously improved economic structures, development vitality, quality and efficiency. As the core area of Guiyang, it plays an increasingly important role in leading, demonstrating and driving the development of the city.
In 2023, Guanshanhu's GDP reached 79.09 billion yuan ($11.04 billion), a year-on-year increase of 4.6 percent.
