In recent years, Guanshanhu district in Guiyang, capital of Southwest China's Guizhou province, has taken actions to improve a series of laws, rules, policies and measures to protect the environment, achieving fruitful results.

Efforts have been made to improve the usage or recycling of solid waste from the construction industry through measures such as setting up garbage classification collection containers and promoting prefabricated green buildings.

By setting up waste-sorting centers and garbage transfer stations, high-quality model communities for garbage classification have been created, promoting the construction of a well-functioning domestic waste-sorting system.

Currently, the comprehensive utilization and disposal rates of general industrial solid waste, harmless treatment of livestock and poultry farming, and comprehensive utilization and disposal of medical waste in the district are all at 100 percent.

The concept of "micro-ecological communities" with residential areas and individual residents as units was first proposed in the province and piloted for development.

By deploying online monitoring devices for air, noise, and wastewater discharge outlets, combined with data on ecological environment evaluation indicators for residential areas, an ecological big data system based on residential areas as units was constructed.

Residents can use a mobile app to view real-time information on the ecological environment quality and changes in their residential areas.

This has stimulated the enthusiasm of residents to jointly participate in the management of the ecological environment.

So far, nine "micro-ecological communities" have been established in the district.
