In recent years, Guanshanhu district in Guiyang, capital of Southwest China's Guizhou province, has put more of an accent on developing local education, including by ramping up investment in this field, to ensure local people are satisfied with the educational opportunities available for themselves and their children.
The district now has 178 schools of various levels and types, including 100 kindergartens, 44 primary schools, 12 junior middle schools, 13 schools covering nine consecutive grades, six schools covering 12 consecutive grades, two combined junior and senior high schools, and one high school.
From 2018 to 2021, annual investment by the Guanshanhu district government in education increased from 862 million yuan ($121 million) to 1.21 billion yuan.
In 2022, 5,415 students benefited from the distribution of subsidy funds for students from families experiencing financial difficulties, with the subsidies totaling 2.96 million yuan.
The rural school nutrition improvement plan was implemented on a large scale in 2022, with 12.62 million yuan of funds for compulsory education allocated, benefiting 10,835 rural primary and middle school students.
The district has also actively explored the reward mechanism for education work, and improved the income level of teachers.
Since 2015, special funds for education have been issued every year to reward schools and teachers for their outstanding teaching achievements, further enhancing the enthusiasm of teachers and the whole school governing apparatus.
Moving forwards, Guanshanhu will continue to promote the high-quality development of its education sector.
