10 years on: Guanshanhu makes progress in society and economy

From 2012 to 2021, Guanshanhu district in Guiyang, capital of Southwest China's Guizhou province, made significant progress in its social and economic development.

The district's GDP increased from 9.02 billion yuan ($1.25 billion) in 2012 to 70.69 billion yuan in 2021.

The general public budget revenue rose from 2.78 billion yuan in 2012 to 5.8 billion yuan in 2021, ranking first in the city for five consecutive years; the industrial added value increased from 187 million yuan in 2012 to 5.12 billion yuan in 2021; and the total retail sales of consumer goods increased from 5.41 billion yuan in 2012 to 34.65 billion yuan in 2021.

Guanshanhu has focused on the transformation and upgrading of traditional industries and promoted the cultivation of emerging industries.

It has introduced eight high-quality industrial projects, and is now home to 40 industrial enterprises above a designated size – those with annual output value of 20 million yuan or more.

The district's five major industries of commerce, finance, exhibition, headquarters and tourism are booming, and the total area of commercial complexes has reached 900,000 square meters.

Since 2021, 21 new well-known exhibition companies have set up operations in the district, and the cumulative economic benefits of exhibitions have exceeded 17.5 billion yuan.

The district has implemented big data strategic actions, built 1 billion-level big data industry gathering demonstration base, and is home to 39 soft service enterprises above a designated size.

Over the past 10 years, Guanshanhu has been rapidly expanding its urban area. The built-up area increased to 82 square kilometers, the resident population increased to 660,000, and the urbanization rate increased to 87.8 percent.

Also, the district has been focusing on green development. Currently, Guanshanhu has afforested 10,000 mu (666.67 hectares) of land and has a total of 193 parks, an urban green space of more than 19 million sq m and a forest coverage rate of 46.02 percent.

Meanwhile, Guanshanhu has improved people's livelihoods in terms of education, medical treatment, health, culture, sports, and social security.
