A cultural station at Jinhuayuan sub-district – in Guanshanhu district of Guiyang, capital of Southwest China's Guizhou province – is making a real difference to the quality of living of its residents.
After a recent renovation, it has integrated the functions of book reading, cultural information resource sharing and training in popular science.
In December last year, the sub-district began the upgrade of the cultural station – adding a painting and calligraphy room and a science station, while improving the reading room and activity room to better meet the different needs of locals.
"In my spare time, I like to read books and there are many books here," said Yu Ying, a resident who was using the revamped reading room.
The sub-district also built an all-age community sports plaza for its residents, which opened on May 30.
It is equipped with circular fitness trails, table tennis tables, badminton courts, separate adults and children basketball courts and soccer fields for the kids. The elderly, middle-aged and young can all use the sports venues there.
Moving forwards, plans are for Jinhuayuan to establish 15-minute living circles to allow residents to enjoy a high quality of living, according to a senior official of the sub-district.
