The Guanshanhu district in Guiyang – the capital of Southwest China's Guizhou province – has deployed provincial, municipal and district-level platforms to monitor and aid people that are receiving social assistance.
District government assistants helping with social assistance now pay visits to the families regularly, to check if they have any difficulties and the assistants have also publicized the latest in social assistance policies.
It is understood that many of the people in need have difficulties in applying for social assistance due to their sickness and disabilities. To make things easier, Guanshanhu has opened service windows at its various government affairs service centers.
As a result, applications for social assistance can now be approved in 15 days by village and town administrations. Villages and communities can also submit applications for individuals. To date, Guanshanhu's social assistance service windows have reportedly received more than 1,300 applications, more than 200 of which were submitted by villages.
Moving forward, plans are for Guanshanhu to continue to improve its social assistance services, guarantee the basic living standards of socially vulnerable groups and help residents to be happier in their community.
