First aid equipment installed in Guanshanhu

In the Guanshanhu district of Guiyang – capital of Southwest China's Guizhou province – 10 automatic external defibrillators (AEDs) were installed on Jan 13 in public areas such as government departments and shopping centers.

On the same day, the Guanshanhu district bureau of health trained employees in the public areas about first aid and the correct use of AEDs.

According to the bureau, AEDs are portable and easy to operate, so any people can use them after being properly trained. The placement of the equipment in crowded public areas is expected to increase the success rate for treating cardiac arrests.

Trainees learned about cardiac compression, artificial respiration and operating AEDs under the guidance of teachers from the Guizhou First-aid Center. This was to ensure they could immediately rescue cardiac arrest patients who are not breathing and who don't have a pulse.
