The Guanshanhu district of Guiyang – capital city of Southwest China's Guizhou province – on Sept 28 held the Guanshanhu Digital Economy Investment Promotion Conference and Middle and Medium-sized Enterprise Digital Transformation Summit at Guizhou Open University.
The summit was jointly organized by the district government and German international software giant SAP.
The district also took the opportunity at the event to promote investment in its digital economy.
Guanshanhu is already home to hosts to the operations of a number of top Chinese tech titans, including Tencent and Alibaba.
In the first half of the year, an index that evaluates the level of deep integration between big data and the real economy ranked Guanshanhu first among 30 class-A regions.
Big data's role as a strong driving force to promote the high-quality economic and social development of the district has reportedly been increasingly apparent. A core area of "China's Data Valley", Guangshanhu's reputation has grown in stature.
Its top officials trumpeted its attractiveness to the tech sector.
As the host venue of the China International Big Data Industry Expo – the world's first national expo to focus on big data – Guanshanhu district should be proactive in utilizing its development opportunities, embracing the digital economy and in implementing its big data strategy, said Qin Yongkang, head of Guanshanhu district.
In a keynote speech, Guan Jian, vice president of SAP (China) Co Ltd, announced the company's plan to build a center in the district that would offer value-added solutions to SMEs and the local government. High-quality resources would be shared for all the industry players to achieve common progress, the executive said.
A number of enterprises signed up at the event to locate operations to the new SAP center. In addition, a local company has been contracted to provide a public technical service platform for the project.
