A group of volunteers including government officials reportedly cleaned areas along rivers in the Guanshanhu district of Guiyang – capital city of Southwest China's Guizhou province – on Aug 25, which was National Low-carbon Day.

The volunteer team included officials from the Guanshanhu district bureau of agriculture and rural affairs and the district sub-bureau for the ecology and environment, as well as residents and others.

They worked hard along the banks of the Xiaowan and Lijiachong rivers, despite the rain, to clear away trash such as discarded cans and plastic bags.

The activity reportedly not only helped restore the environment, but also publicized the importance of environmental protection. It also promoted the implementation of the river chief system.
