The first community sports meet was launched on June 19 in Guiyang – capital of Southwest China's Guizhou province – in the city's Guanshanhu district.
Part of the province's national fitness series of activities, the ongoing event was hosted by the social sports instruction center of the General Administration of Sport of China, the Guizhou Provincial Sports Bureau and Guiyang city government.
During the launch ceremony, a taichi performance, square dancing, rope skipping, basketball competitions, Rubik's cube contests and other activities were staged.
The sports meet is set to run until November and during the period competitions in various sports – including basketball, badminton, football, table tennis and hiking – will be organized.
More than 10,000 residents in 75 communities in the city will participate in the competitions.
