Two residential communities in Guanshanhu district were awarded the title of "Micro Ecological Communities" on June 1 in Guiyang, capital city of Southwest China's Guizhou province.

The communities – Jinhuayuan and Yuanda Meiyu – received the recognition for their innovative environmental monitoring equipment such as the Ecological Guanshanhu App and an online platform for monitoring air and water quality.

The criterion for judging the best performers in the field relies on data gained from environmental probes placed in the various residential communities. The main indicators measure air and water quality, as well as noise and radiation levels, among other benchmarks.

The indicators operate on 24-hour real-time data acquisition cycles, to evaluate the ecological and environmental status of communities.

In recent years, Guanshanhu pursued its development as an ecological civilization district.

The push by cities in China to be an ecological civilization is part of a national program to, among other things, pursue the path of sustainable development while protecting the environment.

From 2013 to 2020, the comprehensive quality compliance rate for surface water in Guanshanhu district reportedly increased from 57.1 percent to 94.45 percent and the excellent and good rate for ambient air quality increased from 97.4 percent to 99.2 percent.
