Guanshanhu district of Guiyang – capital of Southwest China's Guizhou province – experienced a boom in tourism during the Labor Day holiday on May 1-5, according to the latest figures.
The district reportedly received 550,500 visits, an increase of 43.93 percent over the same period last year and total tourist revenue for the period came in at 318 million yuan ($49.39 million), a year-on-year increase of 69.78 percent.
Museums and parks in the district attracted hordes of tourists. Guanshanhu Park, Guiyang Karst Park, Baihua Lake Forest Park and the Guanshanhu Automobile Park received a total of 103,900 tourists. The Guizhou Provincial Museum and the Colorful Qianyi Ethnic Costume Museum received a combined 31,000 visits.
In addition, the district launched a series of experiential, entertainment and interactive tourist routes to provide more choices for the holidaymakers.
Over the break, cultural and sports activities also gave a boost to the tourism market. Various fun events – including a light show, a roller-skating race and a large-scale drone show – wowed both locals and visitors alike.
The district also saw robust tourism spending. That was helped by the local bureau of tourism, culture, radio, television and sports which distributed 30,000 shopping vouchers and coupons worth about 2.4 million yuan.
