The total industrial output value of Guanshanhu district in Guiyang, the capital of Southwest China's Guizhou province, is expected to exceed 10 billion yuan ($144 million) by the end of 2020 – a sevenfold increase from a decade ago. According to local officials, industrial output value has seen an average annual growth rate of 24 percent.
According to Liu Biquan, deputy director of the district's industry and information technology bureau, the automobile industry has been the top priority in the rapid development of the industrial economy over the past 10 years.
Located in the district, Chinese automaker Geely's manufacturing base covers an area of 1,027 mu (68.5 hectares) and has an annual capacity of 300,000 units. A total of 43,200 cars rolled off its assembly lines in 2019, according to local officials.
Geely's operation in Guanshanhu has brought 28 well-established auto parts manufacturers from home and abroad to Guiyang, and these companies collectively created an output value of 610 million yuan in 2019.
Last year, the district's automobile industry output value reached 5.7 billion yuan, accounting for 73 percent of the total output value of industrial enterprises above designated size (companies with annual revenue over 20 million yuan). The automotive sector has become a pillar industry in Guanshanhu and a new engine of economic growth for the district.
The number of industrial enterprises above designated size has increased from 12 in 2011 to 26 in 2019 and is expected to reach 34 in 2020. Meanwhile, the number of enterprises with annual revenue above 100 million yuan increased from three in 2011 to 11 in 2019.
Officials have said that by focusing on modern manufacturing and high-tech industries, the district has made great progress in the construction of its industrial park and the promotion of industrial investments.
To date, the industrial park in Guanshanhu has attracted 38 key industrial projects with a total investment of 23 billion yuan. It has built standard workshops and supporting plants covering 2.4 million square meters and invested 25.5 billion yuan in infrastructure construction, providing jobs for more than 10,000 people.
