Guanshanhu district -- located in Guiyang, capital of Southwest China's Guizhou province -- held a trade fair on July 26-28 themed around poverty alleviation, to boost sales of agricultural products in the mountainous regions, according to local officials.

Officials said that the total sales of agricultural products exceeded 2 million yuan ($287,695) during the three-day event.

The event consisted of an exhibition and a livestreaming of Guizhou's agricultural products.

The exhibition invited merchants to showcase their products in outdoor stands, while the livestreaming activity featured internet celebrities who promoted agricultural products in the poorer regions through online platforms.

In addition, the media center in Guanshanhu district promoted the event on different sales channels, including a Guiyang-based group-buying platform for agricultural products.

Residents said they could buy organic agricultural products -- including sweet potatoes from Ziyun county and walnuts from Hezhang -- at bargain prices during the trade fair.

According to Zhang Fang, a Guanshanhu official, the event set up 104 outdoor stands for agricultural products from 12 impoverished counties and districts in the province.

She added that the aim was to boost sales from these areas, to help farmers out of poverty and eventually become prosperous.

One of the activities to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Guanshanhu district, the trade fair is expected to be held again in late August.
