Guanshan Lake Park hosts folk handicrafts competition

A skilled craftsman and folk handicrafts competition, with the theme of the cultural and creative industry boosting poverty alleviation efforts, was held at Guanshan Lake Park in southwestern Guiyang on Oct 15. A total of 66 craftsmen and 94 pieces of handicrafts from 14 cities, district, and counties of Guiyang participated in the competition.

The competition consisted of craftsman selection and handicraft innovation. The standings of the competition were determined according to the participants' comprehensive scores in their live demonstration, the creativity of their works, and their Q&A session. In total, four first prizes, nine second prizes, 13 third prizes, and 14 good prizes were awarded to participants.

As the capital city of Guizhou province, Guiyang has a profound cultural background and has consistently attached great importance to the development of its cultural industry. It has hosted such craftsman competitions and handicrafts exhibitions for 14 consecutive years. A large number of exquisite handicrafts and craftsmen who inherit intangible cultural heritages have benefited from the competition.

It was reported that craftsmen and handicrafts selected through the competition will participate in the final contest during the 2019 China (Guizhou) International Folk Crafts and Cultural Products Expo, which will open on Oct 25.
