Free African drumming classes bring joy to seniors in Xifeng

To enrich community cultural life and improve the well-being of older residents, Nanmen Community in Yongyang subdistrict, Xifeng county, launched a free African drumming course on July 23, attracting more than 50 senior participants.

The community invited professional instructors from the Guiyang Meizhixiu Art Troupe to lead the classes. Designed specifically for beginners, the course follows a slow, easy-to-follow teaching approach suited to older learners.

In the classes, the instructor introduced participants to the drum, correct sitting posture, basic hand techniques, different drum tones, and simple rhythms. Through hands-on practice, the learners gradually gained confidence.

"The community did a wonderful job organizing this class," said participant Pang Yubin. "African drumming is easy to learn, and the weekly classes are free. It's not only good exercise for the body and mind, but also a great opportunity to spend time and connect with old neighbors. It has really lifted our spirits."
