Xifeng county released more than 210,000 native rock carp fry from Datang Wharf into the Wujiang Reservoir on Oct 28, aiming to help maintain the river's ecological balance.
The released rock carp are highly adaptable to the reservoir's water temperature and quality. Their introduction helps reduce the risks posed by invasive species and allows them to quickly integrate into the local ecosystem.
Xifeng county has sustained its aquatic biodiversity conservation efforts for 15 consecutive years, releasing 8.3 million silver carp, bighead carp, and other native species across 10 releases.
As a result, water quality in the Xifeng section of the Wujiang Reservoir has continued to improve, and fish populations – once depleted by overfishing – are steadily recovering.
