Xifeng protects ecological environment of Wujiang River basin

Xifeng county has been actively protecting and restoring the Wujiang River basin (Xifeng section) since the beginning of this year, focusing on water pollution control, water ecosystem restoration, and river and lake management. The surface water quality compliance rate has reached 100 percent.

The county has strengthened supervision over industrial enterprises and wastewater treatment in industrial parks. It has urged and assisted Guizhou Xifeng Synthetic Ammonia Co in transferring and disposing of 1,703.1 cubic meters of stored wastewater from the former yellow phosphorus plant and backfilling 18 abandoned water ponds with anti-seepage measures. Meanwhile, Guiyang Kailin Fertilizer Co was guided to repair the damaged membrane surface and flood interception facilities at the Jiajia'yan slag site.

Two comprehensive treatment projects for acidic mine wastewater were completed and put into operation in Guangming village, Shidong town, fundamentally reducing the risks of industrial pollution.

To further enhance water environment governance, Xifeng county has invested 124 million yuan ($17.4 million) to upgrade its urban sewage pipeline network, with plans to renovate 86.7 kilometers of aging pipelines.

Next, the county will continue to improve water environment management and further enhance the quality of its aquatic ecosystems.
