In October 2020, Xifeng county in Guiyang, capital of Southwest China's Guizhou province, was selected as one of the first national digital village pilot areas, ushering in a new wave of development opportunities.

Over the past four years, Xifeng has accelerated the deployment of big data, 5G, and the Internet of Things. It has vigorously advanced smart agriculture, transportation, education, and healthcare initiatives. An increasing number of digital applications are now supporting various aspects of rural vitalization, bringing tangible convenience and benefits to residents.

Yuan Bangxi, a pandemic prevention officer in the county's Shidong village, uploaded the last batch of livestock vaccination data to the "Prevention Manager" system on Oct 10.

"I'm responsible for livestock and poultry vaccination in 34 village groups, with a total count of 5,976 animals. Thankfully, with this system, it only took me 10 days to complete the task," Yuan said.

The system Yuan uses is the Xifeng county livestock big data cloud platform (Prevention Manager). Through this platform, data on livestock and poultry breeds, conditions, and production timelines within his jurisdiction can be accurately collected and analyzed, providing decision-making support for industrial development.

Having worked in animal epidemic prevention for eight years, Yuan deeply appreciates the convenience of digitalization. "We used to register data on paper forms, which were easily damaged on rainy days, forcing us to redo everything. Compiling the data was especially challenging, as a small mistake in handling a stack of forms could lead to errors," Yuan explained. "Now, on the app, it takes less than a minute to complete a report for one household, with data automatically consolidated in the backend. The entire process takes half the time it used to."

Today, the "Prevention Manager" is widely used in Xifeng's animal epidemic prevention efforts and has been adopted in 35 counties across the province and beyond, serving nearly 1.1 million farmers. In just the first half of this year, the platform collected 40.52 million data entries.
