Xifeng turns waste into resource, promoting green development

For every ton of phosphoric acid produced, 4-5 metric tons of phosphogypsum are generated. The harmless disposal and comprehensive utilization of phosphogypsum are major challenges for phosphate chemical enterprises. In recent years, to protect resources and the environment, Xifeng county in Guiyang has introduced 15 phosphogypsum disposal companies, aiming to turn waste from phosphate chemical production into a valuable resource.

Guizhou Xiyang Industrial Co. is a phosphate fertilizer enterprise with over 20 years of production experience. It produces 400,000 tons of phosphogypsum annually, and its slag storage can hold over 3.9 million tons.

To solve the issue of utilizing over 400,000 tons of phosphogypsum every year, the company has introduced eight enterprises, including Guizhou Honghai Gypsum Powder Industry Co and Guizhou Jiezhongsen Building Materials Co, which produce phosphate building gypsum powder and related gypsum products.

By bringing in downstream projects, phosphogypsum stock and current volume can be reduced, forming an ecological circular economy chain. This protects the environment and generates economic benefits for downstream companies, turning phosphogypsum into a valuable resource.

A complete phosphogypsum industrial chain – from raw phosphogypsum to phosphate building gypsum powder to various phosphogypsum-based building materials – has been formed, further optimizing the industrial structure of the park's phosphate chemical industry.

From January to October this year, Xiyang Industrial Co produced 303,500 tons of phosphogypsum and converted 323,100 tons, achieving a utilization rate of 106.46 percent.
