In recent years, Xifeng county, Guiyang, capital of Southwest China's Guizhou province, has been working to renovate old residential communities, with a focus on enhancing residents' living standards. This has benefited 9,643 households.

The project, which began in May 2023, is now 99-percent complete. It includes corridor refurbishments, underground pipeline construction, roof waterproofing and wall repairs.
Before the renovation, the government held over 30 community meetings and gathered feedback through more than 7,000 questionnaires, both online and in-person, to fully understand residents' needs. The whole renovation process was transparent, with residents themselves involved in project management, significantly increasing the quality and pace of the work.
In particular, in the Longgang New City neighborhood, parking was a major issue. The county's department of housing and urban-rural development coordinated the use of the high-speed rail station's plaza as a temporary parking area, ensuring renovations went smoothly.
As a result of these efforts, many old neighborhoods have seen a complete transformation, with improved infrastructure, road repairs, enhanced greenery and upgraded security measures. Residents have noted significant improvements in their living environments, with some expressing optimism that their businesses will also thrive as a result.
This renovation project has not only enhanced the city's image, but also greatly improved residents' living conditions, creating a win-win situation for urban development and public welfare.
