Guiyang, Uruguay's Rivera enhance cooperation in sports

Guiyang City in Southwest China's Guizhou province and Rivera City in Uruguay held a video conference for cooperation in the sports sector on Dec 15, having in-depth discussions and positive consensus on the formulation of the exchange plan for 2024 and the establishment of a sports exchange and visit mechanism.

Yang Liu, Deputy Director of the Guiyang Foreign Affairs Office, chaired the conference.

Analaura Soto, Head of Decentralized Cooperation with PRChina-AUCI Presidency of Uruguay, and Ana Paula Alonso, Director of Rivera Foreign Affairs Office, delivered speeches.

Horacio Hernandez, Director of Rivera Bureau of Sports, and Zhao Xuemei, Deputy Director of Guiyang Bureau of Sports, provided overviews of sports development in their respective cities.

Both sides agreed that since establishing friendly cooperation in 2020, despite the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, the two cities have maintained close contact, delved into various fields of exchange and cooperation, and promoted the construction of sister cities, with practical results achieved and an ever-growing friendship fostered.

The two sides will view sports exchange as a focal point for collaboration in 2024. They plan to deepen mutual visits and learning in areas of mutual advantage, such as table tennis and soccer, by sending coaches and engaging in training, to achieve mutual benefit, win-win cooperation, and common development.

Other representatives from the Embassy of Uruguay in China, Rivera Bureau of Sports, Guiyang People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries, Guiyang Table Tennis Association, and Guiyang Soccer Association also participated in the video conference, exchanging views and delivering speeches.
