Xifeng county recently launched the "See Middle Street Again" renovation project, aiming to improve the living environment, cultural value and services in the Middle Street region.
Decades ago, Middle Street used to rank as the county's busiest commercial area, lined with clothing shops, department stores, restaurants and other businesses.
Today, the Middle Street region located in the northern part of the old downtown area is surrounded by major roads such as Jiefang North Road, Dongfeng Road, and Jiaotong Road, covering an area of approximately 2.6 hectares.
The region features a mixed-use area, combining residential and commercial spaces. Due to its long history of development, the region faces challenges such as limited public infrastructure, aged and damaged building facades, insufficient green spaces, uneven distribution of businesses, and an overall poor appearance. It lacks distinct characteristics, as well as fun and interactive elements.
The renovation project plans to create a mixed-use themed region to foster a commercial atmosphere and establish a regional commercial hub, thereby attracting more foot traffic and enhancing the value of commercial establishments.
Xifeng will upgrade the street-facing walls, lighting, and the overall environment. Simultaneously, the county will optimize the business layout, creating a commercial street that integrates dining, drinking, entertainment, shopping, and leisure to cater to the diverse needs of various age groups.
Through these efforts, Xifeng intends to transform the region into a place of cultural significance, a core hub for fashion-forward experiential commercial services, and a hub for culinary cultural experiences. It will be designed to function as an open "cultural museum."
