Town welcomes corn harvest

With the arrival of autumn, villagers in Xiaozhaiba town of Xifeng county have been harvesting and drying corn.

Since the start of this year, Xiaozhaiba town has focused on strengthening food security. This year, the town planted 24,364 mu (1624.27 hectares) of corn. To ensure stable and increased grain production, the town has introduced high-quality corn varieties in accordance with local conditions, helped villagers plant corn scientifically, used standardized management, and helped villagers harvest corn in a timely manner.

Huang Kaikang, a local villager from the town's Wengsha village, said that he planted over 50 mu of corn this year, which is expected to see a harvest of 20,000 kilograms.

Meanwhile in Qinqizhai village, another village in the town, a corn harvester is shuttling through the village's cornfield. But some fields are difficult for machines to reach, so the village has hired villagers to harvest them. This has not only ensured that the grain is harvested on time and returned to the warehouse, but has also allowed some villagers to find jobs near their homes.

Yuan Hong, secretary of the village's Party branch, said that this year, more than 2,700 mu of corn were planted in the Village, and the harvest is expected to be about 1 million kilograms.
