The 14th Hongyan Grape Cultural Festival kicked off in Hongyan village in Xifeng county, Guiyang, capital of Southwest China's Guizhou province, on Aug 5.
On the day of the event, villagers dressed in traditional ethnic costumes welcomed guests at the entrance of the venue, singing cheerful drinking songs and inviting guests to taste fine wine and listen to the sound of reed pipes.
A lovable mascot interacted with the guests at the opening ceremony, before the event finally kicked off with a spectacular opening dance show entitled "Poetic Dance: The Journey of a Legendary Landscape Painting".
The grapes, benefiting from local mild climate, abundant rainfall, and fertile soil rich in silicon, selenium, and potassium, contain a high amount of protein, dietary fiber, vitamin C, carotene, and numerous trace elements.
Hongyan grapes were awarded the title of National Geographical Indication Protection Product due to their high quality.
This year, the local grape-growing industrial park has planted 3,200 mu (213.33 hectares) of grapes, of which the yield area is about 1,700 mu, the estimated output is 2,100 metric tons and the output value is about 16.8 million yuan ($2.34 million).
The festival will last until Aug 9, during which in addition to grape picking, there will be fish catching competitions, basketball games, square dance competitions and other related activities.
