Since the start of this year, Xifeng county in Guiyang, capital of Southwest China's Guizhou province, has been promoting vegetable planting to benefit locals.

The county has made plans to expand the vegetable planting base to 10,000 mu (666.67 hectares) to grow summer and fall vegetables, which is expected to increase the incomes of 1,119 farmer households.

Meanwhile, focusing on the high-standard vegetable base in Shitong town, Xifeng has established several large-scale standard planting demonstration sites.

In Shitong town, a vegetable base accommodates over 40 mu of cabbages, bringing in an approximately income of 7,000 yuan ($967.40) per mu, while at another vegetable base, over 500 workers are harvesting more than 1,900 mu of peppers.

To date, Xifeng has planted 220,000 mu of vegetables with a total yield of 253,000 metric tons.

Next, the county will focus on the vegetables' variety, quality and brands, introduce and cultivate more vegetable businesses and improve the vegetable bases to boost rural development and benefit locals.
