In recent years, Xifeng county in Guiyang, capital of Southwest China's Guizhou province, has promoted the renovation of local back alleys to improve its urban environment.
Since 2021, the county has invested over 50 million yuan ($7.07 million) in renovating 39 back alleys. Efforts have been made to rebuild 9,470 square meters of paved areas, beautify 3,400 square meters of walled areas, and renovate 530 square meters of house facades.

In terms of infrastructure, the county replaced 290 streetlights and added 100 meters of guardrails.
The alleys used to be dark at night and slippery on rainy days. Moreover, the sewage pipes were often blocked in the surrounding residential areas. Upon completion of the renovation work, these problems have all now been solved.
Looking ahead, Xifeng plans to create five cultural streets to showcase its local history, food and tourism culture to further upgrade the back alleys and enhance people's quality of life.
