Residents benefit from smart parking garage

A smart parking garage is currently being built in Xifeng county, Guiyang, Southwest China's Guizhou province.

The garage is located in the Yongyang sub-district near the county's traditional Chinese medicine hospital, disease prevention and control center, cultural promotion center, and several old residential areas. In the past, residents there had a hard time finding parking spaces.

The smart parking garage will make use of wireless communications, mobile terminals, GPS, GIS, and other technologies for information collection, management, searching, booking and other services at the garage. Drivers simply need to drive their car onto the elevator and robots will do the rest, according to a manager of the project. The garage can reduce the time needed to find a parking space by more than 50 percent.

The project was launched last October, and is expected to be completed on Nov 30 and be put into operation by the end of this year.
