City laneway renovation is an essential part of Guiyang's five-year campaign to build a stronger provincial capital. Xifeng county in Guiyang, Southwest China's Guizhou province, has been a keen participant in the campaign and plans to renew 24 city laneways this year.
The 24 laneways have a total area of 70,000 square meters and involve 43.35 million yuan ($6.36 million) in funds.
"My ice cream shop has been operating near the high-speed rail station for many years. The road in front of the store used to be muddy, shabby and terrible, but after being renovated, more customers are coming to my shop," said a local surnamed Zhou, who runs an ice cream shop on one of the 24 laneways.
Five of the 24 laneways have been transformed into exquisite cultural streets, with the rest still being reconstructed. Renovation work is expected to finish at the end of September.
