"We are raising basses, and this type of fish is peculiar about the water and air quality of its living environment. Luwo town is quite suitable for the fish," said Hu Lixia, general manager of Xifeng Jiangshengyuan Eco-Agriculture Co.
The company's basses are produced by adopting the standard fish breeding model, and are fed by lactic acid bacteria, herbs, and other high-end feeds. The fresh taste and tight meat of the bass are seeing increasing popularity in the market.
The fish farming base was established in Luwo town back in 2019, with a total investment of 15 million yuan ($2.25 million). Since its operation, the base churns out more than 200 metric tons of basses worth over 7 million yuan annually, providing around 800 local jobs with an average of 300,000 yuan in wages.
"From the construction to the operation of the base, the Qingzhen government has given us lots of support and assistance. They helped us handle the land problem and harden the roads around the base and sponsored us with 1 million yuan as an initial fund. Last year, the government also helped us apply for subsidies for losses due to flooding," said Hu.
Xifeng county has been deepening agricultural reforms, developing its ecological fishing industry, and adhering to the "enterprise + university (research institute) + village + rural household" development model in order to accomplish the high-quality and long-term development of the industry.
There are currently 19 fishery operators registered in Xifeng, which also boasts three professional fishery cooperatives and more than 100 businesses involved in recreational fishing.
