Since the beginning of this year, Xifeng county in Guiyang, Southwest China's Guizhou province, has been focusing on advancing modern agriculture through the production of staple food crops, specialty agriculture, the application of technology, and agricultural reforms.

The government has released a work plan on the production of crops, registering detailed information about lease-holding farm households, such as the type and location of contracted land, implementing a liability system among households, and prioritizing grain production over special agricultural products.

Through online and onsite instruction programs launched in Xifeng, farm households have been equipped with expertise needed to boost agricultural output and respond to extreme weather. Xifeng currently has 12,866.67 hectares of grain-growing land – 12 percent more than the county's goal.

Grapes, roxburghs, kiwi fruits, and plums are the county's special agricultural products, and they are planted over an area of 1,266.67 hectares. There are three local companies with green goods certificates, and two agricultural products have been identified as geographical indication products in Xifeng.

The agricultural sector has also undergone an information-based reform, as an online agricultural information management demonstration platform has been established to help households better manage their work.

The county has also stepped up efforts to extend land-leasing contracts by 30 years after they expire.
