Xifeng aims for new-type industrialization

A session centering on the transition into new-type industrialization was held on June 8 in Xifeng county, Guiyang, Southwest China's Guizhou province.

The session clarified the direction being taken by the county's high-quality development, which at a historic juncture is reliant on an industrial transition. Officials from the county government were urged to maintain their political principles and to take a broad view of development. They were required to objectively evaluate the obstacles being met by the county, and reverse the trend for passive development by turning pressure into motivation and turning challenges into new opportunities.

Qi Yong, secretary of the zone's Party work committee, attached great importance to Xifeng's dominant industry. Qi said that efforts should be made to give full play to the area's advantages in sectors like the modern chemical industry, new materials, and chemical pharmacy, and strive to build two 10-billion-yuan ($1.5 billion) businesses (the modern chemical industry and new construction materials), as well as five 1-billion-yuan sectors (new medicine, special food, equipment manufacturing, energy saving and daily necessity making).

In addition, the government will open the zone up further, and draw a blueprint that enables each industrial park in the zone to have its own traits. Meanwhile, more complete infrastructure and supporting facilities are needed to boost the local economy.

Qi added that enterprises should be guided and motivated appropriately, and that the government is expected to address their development problems.

Environmental protection cannot be ignored during the industrial transition. The admission threshold for companies should be maintained. Traditional businesses should follow a path that is more high-end, intensive, environmentally-friendly, and intelligent.
