Flood-relief drill carried out in Xifeng

A flood-relief drill was conducted in Xifeng county, Guiyang in Southwest China's Guizhou province, on June 2. According to local authorities, the drill was aimed at better preparing emergency rescue teams for natural disasters, such as rainstorms and floods, and the consequences they may cause, including waterlogging and traffic jams.

After hearing anti-flood warning alarms, more than 100 emergency rescue staff members sprang into action, erecting a security cordon around the emergency site and immediately launching relief work. They first transferred trapped pedestrians and vehicles to safe places, and then used water pumps and sandbags to prevent water on the road surface from entering industrial parks or residential areas nearby.

Through the precise orders and quick responses delivered by the team, all the trapped residents were saved and the flood was brought under control.

Xifeng has been prioritizing its anti-flood work ever since flood season began. The government has formulated a contingency plan that involves the deployment of rescue teams, aid delivery and reserves of relief materials.

The county has conducted careful inspections of drainage systems of 269,232 square meters of city road, water volumes along 1,812 meters of water courses, and city infrastructure including street lamps and sewer covers.

Staff members at the digital city management center are on duty around the clock, and the center's LED inspection screen displays real-time information about possible disasters.
