Xifeng county in Guiyang, capital city of Southwest China's Guizhou province, has been consistently dedicated to improving its functions and services, with an eye to bettering residents' living standards and making itself a more comfortable place to live.
The renovation work launched by the government focuses on old communities, shanty towns and the county's laneways.
The shanty town renovation project has been funded by the central government, along with local government bonds and social capital. Back in 2020, a total of 31.27 million yuan ($4.69 million) was invested in the project with the aim of renovating shanty towns in six villages containing 1,708 households. This year, the government will continue the project with a planned investment of 260 million yuan, to renovate shanty towns covering an area of 62,400 square meters.
The government has also been upgrading its old communities, which feature worn-out infrastructure and poor living conditions. In 2020, the government upgraded seven old residential areas, benefiting 948 households. In addition, 6,000 square meters of new kindergartens were built.
In terms of rebuilding the county's laneways, which are narrow roads that connect communities with major or minor streets, the government invested 4.66 million yuan last year to rebuild three major laneways that help connect more than 6,000 people.
